NWFCC 2019

The 70th Northwest Fish Culture Concepts Annual Meeting and Workshops will be held December 3 - 5, 2019, in Victoria, British Columbia at the Victoria Conference Centre. The NWFCC provides a great venue to share innovative ideas on the latest advances in fish culture techniques and applications. It is attended by professionals from government, indigenous and privately run hatchery facilities interested in learning tools to improve operational efficiencies, sustainability, fish health and safety.

Hosted by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, NWFCC 2019 includes presentations, vendor exhibits, a poster session, workshops, socials, a fantastic raffle, and the opportunity to connect with your colleagues - making this an event you don't want to miss!

Call for Abstracts

We are now accepting abstacts for the following sessions (subject to change):

  • Fish Health and Nutrition
  • Conservation and New Species Aquaculture 
  • Physiology and Genomics
  • Advances in Infrastructure and Hatchery Technology
  • Effective Rearing and Release Strategies
  • Hatchery Innovations* (short snappers - 10 minutes in length)
  • Novel Approaches to Hatchery Evaluation
  • Potpourri

*With the exception of Hatchery Innovations, presentations should be no longer than 15 minutes with an additional 3 minutes for questions.

Submit your abstract for consideration to nwfcc-submissions@gofishbc.com, using the guidelines in the NWFCC abstract example. Please include a contact name and email address if different from the presenting author.

The deadline for Abstract Submissions is Friday, October 4, 2019.

We will confirm acceptance of your paper for presentations by October 18, 2019.

Arriving by air
Victoria International Airport (YYJ) is well served with flights throughout North America including non-stop service from Vancouver and Seattle. 
 
Downtown Victoria is also serviced by local and regional flights — Harbour Air Seaplanes, Helijet International and Kenmore Air Seaplanes — which serve Vancouver and Seattle.  
 
Arriving by ferry
Ferry service connects Victoria (Vancouver Island) to mainland British Columbia, Canada, and Washington State, USA. 
 
BC Ferries provides frequent daily car and passenger service between Vancouver (Tsawwassen) and Swartz Bay, located approximately 32 km north of Victoria.  From Washington State, USA, The Black Ball Coho Ferry Line links Port Angeles to Victoria and the Clipper’s passenger-only service connects Victoria to Seattle.  
 
Victoria is best explored by foot. The Conference Centre, accommodation, restaurants and attractions are all within easy walking distance.
