2021 Lake Stocking Program: Year in Review

Despite the unique challenges 2021 presented, the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC was able to successfully deliver the annual provincial recreational stocking program.

Lake Stocking Program
Over the course of the year, we stocked 5.7 million rainbow trout, coastal cutthroat trout, westslope cutthroat trout, eastern brook trout, and kokanee into 648 lakes across British Columbia.

Anadromous Fish Program
In partnership with the provincial and federal governments, we raised 278,727 steelhead smolts for release into six rivers in the Lower Mainland, and the Somass River on Vancouver Island. Our Vancouver Island Trout Hatchery also released 11,676 anadromous coastal cutthroat trout into the Oyster and Quinsam rivers on Vancouver Island.
