The Small Lakes Management and Conservation Initiative (SLMCI) was established in 2002 as a means to support small Lake projects aimed at developing and enhancing freshwater fisheries while protecting wild fish populations. The SLMCI resides and is administered through the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC.
Funds are derived through angling licences fees. These funds are annually distributed among regional fisheries and FFSBC research offices with the allocation based on the priorities established by the provincial Small Lakes Committee. Supported projects may be regional or provincial in nature and include: stocked lake assessments; wild fisheries assessments; stock development and evaluation; new angling opportunities and, angler use and preferences.
