Fish for Free Father's Day Weekend

Mark your calendars for the 18th annual B.C. Family Fishing Weekend, June 16 – 18, 2017. Held on the third weekend of June every year to coincide with Father’s Day, Family Fishing Weekend lets individuals and families try fishing without having to purchase a licence. If you’ve never fished before, or haven’t been fishing for a while, attend one of the approximately 50 free events that will be held around the province. Events are supported by the Family Fishing Society and organized by Fish and Game clubs, the Conservation Officer Service, municipalities, community groups, and local businesses.

On Saturday, June 17 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC is celebrating a free Family Fishing Day at its Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery pond in Abbotsford.

Society staff will also be lending out Rapala fishing rods at seven other events:

June 17 – Victoria-Malahat Outdoor Sport Centre – 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
June 17 – Trail (Champion Lakes) – 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm.
June 17 -  Kelowna (Lambly- Bear Lake) - 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
June 18 – Coquitlam (Lafarge Lake) – 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

If you would like to head out on your own but don’t have the gear, no problem. You can borrow Rapala fishing gear for free at one of our Rod Loan sites.
