Fish for Free Father's Day Weekend

Mark your calendars for the 19th annual B.C. Family Fishing Weekend, June 15 – 17, 2018. Held on the third weekend of June every year to coincide with Father’s Day, Family Fishing Weekend lets individuals and families try fishing without having to purchase a licence. If you’ve never fished before, or haven’t been fishing for a while, attend one of the approximately 50 free events that will be held around the province. Events are supported by the Family Fishing Society and organized by Fish and Game clubs, the Conservation Officer Service, municipalities, community groups, and local businesses.

On Saturday, June 16th the Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery and Kootenay Trout Hatchery are hosting free fishing events onsite.



Society staff will also be lending out Rapala fishing rods at nine other events:

June 15 – Squamish (Alice Lake) – 12:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m.
June 16 & 17 – Victoria-Malahat Outdoor Sport Centre – 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
June 16 & 17 –  Kelowna (Shannon Lake) – 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
June 17 – Trail (Champion Lakes) – 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm.
June 17 – Cranbrook (Idlewild Lake) – 8:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m.
June 17 – Coquitlam (Lafarge Lake) – 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
June 17 – Kamloops (Walloper Lake) – 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
June 17 – Nanamio (Colliery Dam Park) – 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
June 17 – North Vancouver (Rice Lake) – 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

If you would like to head out on your own but don’t have the gear, no problem. You can borrow Rapala fishing gear for free at one of our Rod Loan sites.
